In the fall, I wrote about Ben's purchase at his first visit to the school book fair. He chose a cute poster of puppies. It hangs above his bed, and he often looks up at it and makes his happy noises. At the book fair last week, Ben brought home the poster of a Lamborghini. I will hang it next to the puppies. I think Bob the Builder pictures will soon be retired. I wonder what this almost 13 year-old-boy will make as his next poster choice after dogs and a sports car. Surely, school book fairs don't have posters of swim suit models.
These stories describe our journey with Ben, our oldest son. Ben is a sweet and energetic redhead, born with Rett Syndrome, a rare genetic mutation. My husband, Ryan, and I try to keep up with Ben and his two younger brothers. I intend to shed insight into raising a child with disabilities and pass on the wisdom we’ve earned over the past two decades.
